Women in Construction Conference

The Women in Construction – West Coast Conference is designed for women in all fields and positions within the construction industry.  It provides a forum for women to network, learn, educate, and share ideas. This is a one-of-a-kind conference on the West Coast providing educational panels, professional development, and networking for women in the construction industry. The conference has been planned by women leaders in the construction industry and is scheduled to be an annual event, changing venue locations each year to various western cities. The format of the conference is a one-day program consisting of panels on relevant topics in addition to female keynote speakers sharing their insights as women in the construction industry. This conference is designed to promote and advance women in construction. According to the National Association of Women in Construction, construction-related jobs account for approximately 66% of all jobs in the United States. As of 2006, the construction workforce consisted of 90.4% men and 9.6% women.  With women projected to account for 51% of the increase in total labor force growth from 2008-2018, women in the construction industry need to work together to increase the number of women entering the industry and to support the women already in it.   The conference will provide attendees with the opportunity to:

F – Form connections

E – Exchange Ideas

M – Manage obstacles

A – Acquire Knowledge

L – Learn from others

E – Expand your toolbox

The concept of a “Women in Construction Conference” was the brainchild of Barbara Werther and Barbara Wagner, and it has developed into a highly successful conference held each year in Washington, D.C.  After nine years, that conference continues to grow and demonstrates the interest women have in connecting within the industry.
